Education Committee Meeting Minutes
May 18, 2010
Meeting was opened in prayer.  Devotions were a reading of Matthew 18:2-6 and a rereading of the complete Serenity Prayer.
The Treasurer's report showed a balance of $2,054.37 at the end of March.  Money needed will be approx. $500 for new Summer Sunday School materials for summer quarter.  Since we have the money available, a motion was made by Shirley Emsweller and seconded by Barb Woods that we provide up to $500 to help with Vacation Bible School.  The motion passed unanimously.  Bible School will be June 21-25 in the evening.  A light supper meal will be provided to those who will not have a chance to go home after work.  It will be looked into to have an adult Bible study during the week for parents who would wait on their children.
Much discussion was held on how to get more attendance in Sunday School.  Many great ideas were discussed.  One decision is that starting June 6th, there will be a class offered from 10:30-11:22 for those who want a later class.  It will be on "Jesus and the Parables" and will be facilitated by various leaders.
Also, starting July 11, new short classes will be offered and continue into the fall with the hope that a varied curriculum will bring more to study.
Presently, Disciples I is being finished and a study of John will offered starting June 6th at 4:30pm.  It will be directed by Barb Woods.
Our next meeting has been changed to August 3 at 7pm.
The meeting was closed with prayer.

Education Meeting Minutes
August 25, 2009
The meeting was opened with prayer. Those in attendance were Wayne Beck, Barb Woods, Justine Hanley, and Beth Waggoner.
The treasurer’s report showed a balance of $2508. 56 as of June 30, 2009. Included in this was $52.85 from aluminum cans. It did not include new materials ordered for summer curriculum. Debbie Ettinger has resigned from being our treasurer but Barbara Hickman has agreed to be our new treasurer.
A verbal report was given at the last Ad Board Meeting. Our next meetings will be on Nov. 17, 2009, Feb. 16, 2010, and May 18, 2010.
Promotion Sunday will be on September 13 in the sanctuary. It will be at the start of Sunday School and will take about 15 minutes. Certificate of Promotion will be given and then the students will go to class with their teacher(s). Barb Woods and Justine Handley will be incharge.
Third Grade Bibles will be given on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 at both services. Names should be given either to Wayne Beck or the office. Asking for names will be put in bulletin.
Instead of a teacher appreciation breakfast this year, we will be giving a gift bag of appreciation to the teachers from Little Lambs through Jr. Hi. and let the teachers sleep in.
Bible School will be June 21-25, 2010 and most likely be in the evening so that we can get more adult volunteers.
Teachers please make an inventory of items found in your classroom and please label if your want to make sure they get returned when borrowed.
Adult study and Bible classes will be beginning soon. Beth Waggoner will be offering two Beth Moore series. The first on The Patriarchs will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays starting September 28. The second on Ester will be from 9:30-11:30 on Thursdays start October 1.
Rev. J.T. will be offering a four week course on Methodism at 4:30 p.m. on Sundays starting on Sept. 27. He will also offer a study of the book The Shack at 6:30 p.m. on Sundays also starting on Sept. 27.
If there is enough interest, we will offer two “Disciples Bible Studies”: Disciples I on Sunday evenings—teacher, starting date, and time TBA and Disciples II on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. taught by Wayne Beck.
We are looking at other courses to be offered such as one based on a book by Tony Dungy for men and perhaps another “from the backside”. Anyone that has other suggestions, please contact Wayne Beck.
Barb Woods will continue a Bible Study that meets at 4:30 on Sundays.
As always, we are in need of Sunday School teachers. We do welcome Ethel Cramer who will help in either the pre-K-K class or in the 1st and 2nd grade class.
Greg Brittain has asked that he be relieved as Sunday School Superintendent. He will help orientate a new one. If interested in this position please contact anyone on the Education Committee.
                                                                                    Respectfully submitted,

                                                                                    Wayne Beck
