Meeting was opened with prayer by Justine Handley.
Old Business:
Book Cart – 1st Sunday set up persons will be: November – Shirley Emsweller; December – Barbara Snyder; January – Justine Handley and February Wanda Matteson.
Library Fund - As of 6/30/09 there was a balance of $1500.96 in the dedicated library fund.
Excess Books - Barbara Snyder asked where we should dispose of a box of books that were duplicate, inappropriate for a church library, etc. It was agreed that we would ask Jean Zerkel if she could dispose of these books through Metro Ministries. Shirley Emsweller will contact Jean.
New Business:
Book Stamps from Family Book Store - Shirley will look into the number of stamps we have and determine if we have enough to go shopping for some new books. Justine will submit article for newsletter reminding everyone about the stamps.
Response and New World Outlook magazines – Wanda asked if we should have these mission magazines in the library. After discussion it was determined Justine will order these two mission magazines for the library and research supplies need to properly display then on the shelf. All UMW members should be reading Response and UMW and Mission Committee should be reading New World Outlook.
DVDs - Wanda ask if we should have DVD for members to check out. After discussion it was decided that Justine would put out a survey asking the congregation if they would check out DVD’s if they were available and what DVD’s would their family enjoy. There are currently some VHS tapes on the shelf that can be charged out; however, the committee will only invest in DVD for new movies.
Books in Sunday school rooms - Shirley will work with Education to see if there are any materials that should be included in the library system. She will also check with Beth Waggoner, the Children & Family Ministries Director about materials that can be included in the library system.
UMW Book Shelf – All books on the UMW shelf prior to 2005 can be placed on the regular shelves.
New Computer – Justine expressed concern about the age of the library computer and the fact that our database is not being backed up on a regular basis. The committee agreed that we should have a backup system and authorized Justine to spend up to $1000 and work with the church Office Manager to secure a computer, have it hooked up to the church network and regularly back up the database.
New Carpet – The committee would like to thank the Trustees and especially Sherri Smith for her work in getting the new carper installed in the library. In the future persons taking drinks or other liquid items into the library should have a lid on the liquid. Several carpet cleaners could not discover what had been spilled or how to remove the spot.
Meeting dates for 2010 - January 19, April 20, July 20, and October 19.
