Moments with Mark

Let’s Celebrate!!

In the Book of Leviticus (25:8ff), God says:
On the Day of Atonement of the 50th year, blow the trumpet
loud and long throughout the land...It will be a Jubilee Year for you.
Let us here at New Palestine UMC declare that 2017 is a
Year of Jubilee for us! Fifty years ago, we relocated from Mill Street. A picture of that church hangs on the wall in the Narthex. The
church leaders and Pastor Ross Vandine had a vision that would carry our church far into the future and allow for growth as we spread the Gospel message. God has blessed that vision and
continues to bless us today. So LET’S CELEBRATE!

But that’s not all. We have another milestone to celebrate this year. It was 10 years ago that Pastor John Thomas and the church leaders had a vision that resulted in building the Community Ministry Center (CMC) with the purpose of reaching out to the community while
ministering to our own. The CMC is utilized almost every day of the week. Almost 400 youth participate in Upward Basketball at the beginning of every year. The CMC has also been enjoyed
by hundreds of Celebrations’ children over the years. Recently a “Senior Prom” was held for the residents of Woodland Trace.
So LET’S CELEBRATE!

Early discussion with some current leaders in the church brought up the idea of having a major event in late September or early October to celebrate our Year of Jubilee.   We need dozens of volunteers to begin planning such an event. Watch for upcoming opportunities to sign up. More details to follow. In the meantime, please let me know by sending me an email saying:
Pastor Mark. Count me in!  (mweslernpumc@comcast.net).

Blessings

PRAYER ADVOCATES

We would like to have someone in the prayer room before each service to pray with Pastor Mark and/or any other service leader that would like to pray.  It would be nice to have someone there for each service praying for the service also.  Prayer times are 8:00, 9:15 & 10:15.  Please let me know if you are available.  Respond to Barbara Woods (317) 861-5619, or email at barb5619@gmail.com

SUNDAY GREETERS

The Greeter volunteer is a very enjoyable opportunity!  For 15 minutes before each service you get to be in the Welcome Center to greet people who are coming in.  Guests may need directions and will feel welcome when there is someone available to greet them or just extend a smile and “hello”.

You can sign up for one or more times a month.  We would like to have 2 people for each time so someone could be at the Welcome Center door to assist people when entering the building.

There are several available opportunities.  The times are 8:00, 9:15 and 10:15.  Please call or email Barbara Woods to accept this opportunity to serve at (317) 861-5619 or barb5619@gmail.com

2017 HABITAT FOR HUMANITY GREENFIELD HOUSE BUILD

NPUMC MISSIONS will again be a sponsor of the Habitat house build in Greenfield.  The first day of the build is Thursday, September 7th  and I have scheduled us to do the wall raising on the first day of the build.  (How Exciting!)  We need 15 able bodied workers for the day starting at 7:30; our shift will end at   2:30.  For those that do not want to swing a hammer there will be an opportunity to serve in another way.  We will be providing lunch for all workers and probably coffee and donuts in the morning.
Hopefully this advance notice will let you take a day off from work so you can participate with our church team.   I will have a sign- up sheet in the narthex very soon.  (You will also have to register online  to be able to participate.)  You can work on other days but, you will need to sign up on line for each time you want to work.   Any questions please call Denny Woods, Habitat build coordinator. (317) 730-3798

MISSIONS UPDATE
The Missions Committee would like you to know how the funds you entrust to us are spent and when they are sent out.  We are also going to explain each section of our budget over the next few months.  This will let you know the great ways we are helping God’s work to be carried out throughout the world.

The first category is Emergency Funds
UMCOR: (United Methodist Committee On Relief)   Disaster relief to wherever it is needed.

Vicki Brittain Fund:  Vicki Brittain, a member of NPUMC, started the local missions of helping people in our and surrounding communities with emergency needs of food, clothing and shelter.  Since her death her passion of helping local needs has lived on through our church missions’ team.  This mission is as simple as dropping of a coat to the local school for a child, helping someone keep their heat on for a month during the winter or taking groceries to a family that has fallen on hard times.

Glen Beck Scholarship Fund:  Glenn Beck was a Methodist minister with a passion for national and international missions.  His goal was for everyone to know the Lord and the younger the better.  Our church has a Glenn Beck mission fund that will help pay for a child  to attend a mission trip or a church camp.

Pastor’s Emergency Gift Cards:  We have gift cards available to Pastor Mark to use when the need is immediate.  These are usually used for gas and grociers.
The second category is Hands On Funds.  Included in this category is the

Greenfield Habitat House Build.  This year the build is starting in September.  Look for more information about how to sign up to be involved.

I am going to include some of our Local Commitments  now because they are timely. We support two local summer camps, The Royal Family Kids Camp in Wilkinson and The Nameless Creek Youth Camp.  Both local camps include youth that would not have the opportunity to attend summer camp without outside support.  We also give to the Indiana United Methodist Camps.
